For years, Cochrane has experienced explosive growth, with new homes, businesses, and residents arriving at an unprecedented pace. While this growth is a sign of a thriving community, the fire department has not kept pace. For more than a decade, our minimum staffing levels have remained stagnant, even as the number of emergencies and the complexity of our calls have continued to rise. This has created a significant and growing gap between what our firefighters are expected to do and the resources they have to do it. As our community builds out further and adds more complex, high-density structures, the risk to our residents and our firefighters grows. We must address this critical deficit to ensure our fire department can continue to protect the lives and property of our growing community.
